On Sunday, Rohit Sharma said he is honored and humbled to be nominated for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. He expressed his gratitude for being shortlisted for the honor by the BCCI.
BCCI announced on Saturday that they are going to nominate Rohit Sharma for the Khel Ratna, the board has also nominated Ishant Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan as well as India women team star Deepti Sharma for the Arjuna Awards.
“I am extremely honoured and humbled to be nominated by the BCCI for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award which is the highest sporting honour in India. I am grateful to BCCI, to all my teammates, support staff, fans of the game and my family for sticking by me. Thank You very much,” Rohit said in a video posted by the BCCI on Sunday.
The right-handed batsman had his best year in terms of statistics across formats especially in ODIs. He is the highest run-scorer last year in ODI’s scoring a staggering 1,490 runs in ODIs.
Rohit has also become the first player in the history of cricket to score five ODI centuries in a single edition of the World Cup. He surpassed MS Dhoni to hit the maximum number of sixes in international matches on Indian soil too.
Rohit Sharma could become only the fourth cricketer to win the prestigious award. The three cricketers have already won this award so far are Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
