Juventus keep Lazio at bay with Genoa strollSport — The Guardian ...

Juventus extended their lead at the top to 4 points after defeating Genoa 3-1. Paolo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo and Douglas Costa were on target as the away side secured the win.

Lazio had closed the gap to 1 point after victory over Torino., hours before Juventus’ kick off. However, Sarri’s side were too good for strugglers Genoa who battle relegation.

The match started on ahigh tempo with Juventus testing Genoa’s resistance quite a few times. Bernardeschi and Ronaldo forced some good saves by Perin. It was one-way traffic from Juventus although they could not get the goal needed.

The match was ill-tempered with the referee having to separate the players on couple of occasions. Juve were thoroughly dominant in the first half but Genoa held their defence strong.

It was the same dominance from the Bianconeri’s and they got their reward through Dybala. The Argentinian danced past the Genoa defence before cutting onto his left and slotting it past Perin. It was a gem of a goal, absolute brilliance from Dybala. Juventus continued to threaten and doubled their lead through a stunning goal by Ronaldo. The Portuguese unleashed a strike from 25 yards out which flew past Perin in the top right corner.

They added their third through Douglas Costa. After Ronaldo and Dybala it was the Brazilian’s turn to display his individual quality. Costa cut inside to his left and curled the ball towards the top-left corner. Genoa did get one back after some poor defending by Juventus. Pinamonti got a consolation but that was the only goal they scored in 90 minutes.

The match ended in a 3-1 win for Juventus. More than a team performance, it was 3 top quality strikes from 3 brilliant individuals. All in all Juve were the dominant side over 90 minutes and deservedly took all 3 points. The win takes Juve on 72 points, with Lazio behind them on 68.

Genoa remain just outside the drop zone on 17th.  Next up for them  is a trip to Udinese while Juventus host Torino.
