Ruturaj Gaikwad – The backup after Raina’s departure?

The camp of Chennai Super Kings has been facing a lot of troubles recently. Everything was great for the camp untill 12 members of the CSK contingent testing positive for COVID-19. Two players namely Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad also tested positive and are spending their time in self-isolation.

Just when the team was recovering itself from the shocking news, Suresh Raina decided to withdraw from the IPL and flew back to India. Rumors suggest that there was a dispute between Raina and the management regarding his room allotment. Apart from it, CSK has been facing a huge backlash from its fans after its owner Srinivasan issued a controversial statement in which he referred Raina as Prima Donna.

Ruturaj Gaikwad – Raina’s replacement?

The departure of Suresh Raina has left an irreplaceable void and CSK is trying to fill it by all means. While they haven’t chosen a replacement for Raina, they are looking to fit in Ruturaj Gaikwad as the replacement. But it is to be noted that Gaikwad can join the squad only after testing negative for Coronavirus.

When asked about the void which Raina created Laxman Sivaramakrishnan said, “They have Faf du Plessis too who can play at any position in the top 4. CSK doesn’t need to panic at all with so much experience on their side.”

As Laxman stated Du Plessis could be a perfect replacement for Raina but the fact that he is an overseas player is the only con about him. Hence Ruturaj Gaikwad, the 23year old Indian could be handy for CSK in replacing Raina.
