Ryan Benoit was scheduled to face Zarruhk Adashev in the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 26. But now it looks like the fight will not be taking place after a weigh-in fiasco for Benoit. Benoit weighed in twice, and both the times he was unable to stand on his feet, almost fainting.
After his first attempted he was escorted and was checked upon by the doctors. He returned a while later and faced the same situation – the man just couldn’t stand on his feet for a matter of few seconds. But still, the officials got hold of his weight, as he weighed in at 129 pounds, which was three pounds over the permissible limit.
‘What are we doing? This is crazy?’ – Ariel Helwani on Ryan Benoit struggling
The news that the bout was cancelled was first reported by MMA Junkie. However, Benoit’s opponent Adashev successfully made weight, weighing in at 125.5 pounds.
Adashev would be gutted. He still hasn’t won in the UFC, having made his debut a year earlier against Tyson Nam. He was looking forward to scripting a comeback, but it looks like he will have to wait a little longer.
As for Benoit, it is back to the drawing board. He will have to recover quickly and try to get back into action. And like, Adashev he too is on a two-fight skid.
