Rudy Gobert and Shaquille O'Neal

The Dallas Mavericks secured a crucial win against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of the WCF Playoff finals, leading 2-0 in the current series. Interestingly, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal was present in the crowd to watch this thrilling game between the two top teams in the West.

A particular moment in the game caught O’Neal’s attention the most. During the game, Timberwolves star defender and NBA 2024 DPOY, Rudy Gobert attempted a dunk that failed and was blocked by the Mavs defense. O’Neal was shocked by this and shared a video on social media which quickly started making rounds on the internet.

Ohh, 7-foot 5 guy getting his dunked blocked, impressive.
Shaquille O’Neal said in the video

This was somewhat of a savage troll made by O’Neal toward this year’s NBA DPOY. In addition, this was not the first time O’Neal trolled Gobert this 2023-24 NBA season.

On the sports side of things, the Timberwolves’ players did not perform at their best as they blew an 18-point lead at the hands of the Mavs star-studded attack, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Notably, Rudy Gobert had a good performance, scoring 16 points and gathering 10 rebounds as a defender.

Shaquille O’Neal makes bold admission about Rudy Gobert’s defensive abilities

Shaquille O’Neal has not been a big fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert. In addition, throughout his career, O’Neal has been openly critical of the Timberwolves center. On “The Big Podcast” earlier this month, O’Neal also claimed that he is not a big fan of Gobert’s defensive abilities, and even said that Gobert is not that great in defense in the NBA.

I never thought he was a great defensive player, either. See, what it is, is there's not a lot of centers that are making him play defense. Like, he’s not doing that s--- against [Nikola Jokić], because he has to be engaged. But when he’s going against another guy, he’s 7' 6", of course if you lay it up he’s going to block it.

On the contrary, someone could argue with O’Neal’s judgment that Gobert is not a great defender in the NBA. As being voted Defensive Player of the Year four times and continuing to play for his team in critical league games, cant be just a mere coincidence.
