Simona Halep, World no.2 has withdrawn from the US Open. The Romanian won the WTA Prague Open last week as she made a return post the Pandemic.

Halep confirmed her withdrawal from a tweet

The Romanian player has put a tweet to confirm her withdrawal. She wrote,

“I have decided that I will not travel to New York to play @usopen”

The player has tagged the official page of the US Open. She had made the decision after considering all the factors. Halep has referred to the Pandemic as an exceptional situation. The Romanian was in Prague for the WTA Prague Open.

Unfortunately, the situation in the US is much worse than a lot of European countries. Flushing Meadows in Queens too has a high number of COVID-19 cases.

Simona Halep appreciates the Efforts of the Organisers

In the following post, Halep has thanked the US Open organizers. She has acknowledged the efforts of the US Open team that is working for a successful Grand Slam amidst a Pandemic.

Simona Halep now joins a long list of players, including Ashleigh Barty, Bianca Andeescu, Elina Svitolona, Kiki Bertens and Belinda Bencic. These women are ranked in the WTA Top 10.

The US Open is planned to be held from 31st August this year.
