Rafael Nadal has another little achievement in his bag, as the Spanish National Tennis Day will be held on June 3 from next year. The date also marks his birthday, as the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation had given the nod to the proposal made by Jorge Mir and seconded by Alex Corretja.
It was decided that there would be a National Tennis Day in Spain, to promote the sport among the youngsters. The date, 3rd June was designated to honor the legendary tennis player, Rafael Nadal who has done the country proud by his amazing performances in the past two decades.
Rafael Nadal opts out of Wimbledon 2021 and Tokyo Olympics
Rafael Nadal made a huge decision to skip Wimbledon 2021 and Tokyo Olympics this year. The Spaniard was last seen in action at the French Open 2021, where he was defeated in the semifinals by Novak Djokovic in a four set thriller.
Rafael Nadal stated that he wanted to preserve his body in order to elongate his career. With just two weeks between the French Open and Wimbledon 2021, he decided against competing in the grass court season.
The Spaniard will also not compete at Tokyo Olympics, and is expected to return to courts for the American hard court season. The 35-year old has won 4 US Open titles in the past, and will hope to claim his 21st major at the Flushing Meadows this year.
