The COVID-19 pandemic has been wreaking havoc around the world and showing no signs of stopping. With cases increasing by the day and the situation looking dire especially in Asia, two more cricketers tested positive for COVID-19 today in Sri Lanka’s Dhananjaya Lakshan and Ishan Jayaratne who both returned a positive test leading to them being put in quarantine for the next 14 days.

According to a report from Daily FT, a total of 40 Sri Lankan cricketers were given their first vaccine dose against COVID-19 at the National Blood Bank. It remains unclear as to whether Lakshan and Jayaratne were among the 40. They aren’t a part of Sri Lanka’s 18-member squad for the series against Bangladesh that begins on the 23rd of May. The ODI series will have three ODIs being played in Dhaka.

Following the three-match ODI series for Sri Lanka in Bangladesh that begins on May 23, the side will fly directly to England where they will play three T20Is and three ODIs. They will have an ODI practice match against Kent on June 18 and a T20 practice match against Sussex on June 20 prior to the series.

The T20I series will then get underway on June 23 with Cardiff and Southampton being the hosts. The ODIs will be hosted by Chester-le-Street, London and Bristol. Meanwhile, there is also a plan of India touring Sri Lanka in July and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly revealed the same yesterday stating that India were ‘supposed’ to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is even as the Test team is occupied in England.
