Luis Suarez played his first game in an Atletico Madrid shirt on Sunday night. To know one’s surprise he looked fresh and made a very stunning impact.
Luis Suarez’s Debut:
Suarez came on in the 71st minute as he replaced Diego Costa. He made a sudden impact as he assisted Marcos Llorente in the 72nd minute itself. He went on to even getting a penalty which was then cancelled out by VAR. The biggest impact was him scoring 2 goals in the 85th and 93rd minutes as Atleti won 6-1.
Diego Costa, who opened the scoring after nine minutes, has welcomed the arrival of his new strike partner, jokingly referring to the multiple incidents in which Suarez has been accused of biting an opponent.
“I like Luis Suarez. It’s really good, one of us bites and the other kicks,” Costa told reporters after the game. “I don’t know why Barca let him leave, but it’s up to them. He has a warrior spirit to win titles, hopefully, we can give that to the fans.”
Diego Simeone commented after the game, “It will depend on our work, our squad depth and the players’ security. The team was liberated. The arrival of an important player improves the team, but the team was already working very well. Now we’ll continue taking it game by game, like always.”
