IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad contribute Rs. 30 crore for COVID-19 relief

The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has been wreaking havoc in India as it has been accounting for more than 4 lakh positive cases per day. The situation in the country is one of perpetual uncertainty and the situation is well and truly dire. In these difficult times, there have been contributions for COVID-19 relief from various celebrities, sportspersons and franchises.

In the now-suspended Indian Premier League (IPL), Pat Cummins of Australia started off donations by contributing a sum of USD 50,000. Soon, a plethora of cricketers like Jaydev Unadkat, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Sheldon Jackson, Shreevats Goswami, Nicholas Pooran, Brett Lee, Virat Kohli, Yuzvendra Chahal and various others joined the cause and did their bit.

Franchises like Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals too took to their social media accounts to announce donations. Now, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise has also done so.

Sunrisers Hyderabad took to Twitter today to announce the donation as they captioned an official statement writing, “Sun TV (SunRisers Hyderabad) is donating Rs. 30 crores to provide relief to those affected by the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. (sic)

The statement read, “The money will be spent on several initiatives currently under way at various states of India including donations to the various programmes initiated by the Government of India and State Governments as well as partnering with NGOs that are providing oxygen cylinders, medicines etc.

They further wrote, “In addition, the company will leverage its resources including all its media assets to spread greater awareness among millions of our TV viewing audience across India and rest of the world.” This noble gesture by the franchise is now going viral and receiving plaudits on social media.
