Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav had debuts to remember as they shone in the recently concluded T20I series for India against England. Kishan was the first to dazzle as he came up with a match-winning half-century in the second T20I. Following an injury in the third T20I however, he was dropped and it was then Suryakumar who took over as he came up with two top quality knocks in the final two matches.
Now, with the ICC T20 World Cup which will take place later this year looming and because of the fact that just 15 members will be picked in the squad, the duo’s position does remain uncertain. With various more experienced options available and a plethora of middle order batsmen looking like certainties, it is unlikely that both would find a place. However, former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman has stated that he would pick both batters in the squad.
VVS Laxman on Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan
Laxman addressed a question on the Star Sports show Cricket Connected about the two and said, “Well, it’s a very tough question because what we have seen in this series is that lot of youngsters have capitalized on their opportunities. But the way Ishan Kishan played in his debut innings and then also the way Suryakumar Yadav played, I think both of them will definitely be in my squad of 15. It’s a tough choice, but I think both of them deserve to play in the Indian squad come the World Cup.”
Ishan Kishan is currently with the Mumbai Indians camp ahead of the IPL as he is not a part of the ODI squad. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav who is yet to play an ODI for India could get his chance tomorrow in the second ODI against England due to Shreyas Iyer‘s injury.
