AB de Villiers declared his retirement from international cricket nearly 3 years ago, but he has continued to play in global T20 leagues and maintain his status. In this year’s IPL season, his recent heroics have helped Royal Challengers Bangalore win many matches. Before the IPL 2021 season was postponed indefinitely due to Covid-19 problems, De Villiers had scored 207 runs in seven matches. Not only this season, but in the Indian Premier League, AB De Villiers has been a prolific player over the years.

Tabraiz Shamsi heaped praise on AB de Villiers in an interview today. “AB is a world-class player and he can walk into any team and that’s how good he is, it doesn’t matter whether it’s England or Australia or South Africa. I don’t know what AB’s situation is, it all depends on how he feels and how the coach feels and the selectors too. But, let’s be honest, a player like that is hard to ignore,” said Shamsi.

With the T20 World Cup approaching, there has been talking about AB de Villiers returning to the South African side. AB de Villiers has stated that he and Mark Boucher, head coach of South Africa have been in contact and will conduct a lengthy conversation about his possible return to the national team after the IPL.

South African cricket is having one of its toughest years, with the team currently ranked 4th in the ICC Men’s Rankings across all formats. For the Proteas, AB De Villiers’ return would be a shining light in the darkness. They already have Faf Du Plessis, Quinton De Kock, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje in their team, all of whom have excelled in the IPL. In T20I cricket, even Rassie van der Dussen is in excellent form for them. With the addition of De Villiers, South Africa will be one of the favorites to win the T20 World Cup.
