He then decided to skip the clay season but a late change in thought landed him at Madrid courtesy of a wild card. This week, he defeated Dominic Thiem in the first round and then stunned 14th seed Denis Shapovalov in the second round in three sets 6-1,3-6,6-2 to book a date with Djokovic.
