Tariq Lamptey extends stay at Brighton and Hove Albion by signing a new 5 year contract extension throwing a spanner into rival club plans

Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Manchester United will have to cool their interests on the England u-21 full-back as he signs a new contract with the Seagulls.

The young right-back has a lot of admirers but they will now be put off by his contract extension to his club now and will have to try again later

Tariq Lamptey signed a new contract which entailed a two year extension to his current contract that was going to run out in 2023. Lamptey was signed from Chelsea on the deadline day of last season’s winter transfer window. Since then he has taken short time to establish himself as a starter in Graham Potter’s Brighton and Hove Albion side and has earned himself a u-21 England call despite also being able to represent Ghana in International football.

His departure caused much frustration among the Chelsea fans and they were right feeling frustrated

Tariq Lamptey is a phenomenal talent who has shown tremendous potential in such a short amount of time. Brighton and Hove Albion signed him on deadline day of the winter window last year for a paltry sum of £3 million. They took advantage of the fact that Lamptey wasn’t receiving enough game time at Chelsea as club captain Cesar Azplicueta and Reece James were further up the pecking order at right-back. Brighton became an ideal destination for him and he landed there with a lot of ambition.

From there he has shown why he was so wanted by Brighton and Hove Albion and disappointed no one with his performances. Perhaps the only ones who were disappointed were Chelsea fans themselves as they lost out on a gem of a talent. He quickly established himself as a valued starter player and then went on to get a call up for the u-21 England team. Many others are clamouring for him to get called up to the senior team. Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney also asked Manchester United to not waste time and sign him up soon as other teams like Bayern Munich and Manchester City keep tabs on him.

However it is going to take a lot of time to get him now as the young right-back has signed a two year extension on top of his initial contract. The contract extension will see him at the Seagulls until the end of the 2024/25 season, unless some team agrees to pay a lot of money now.
