World No.4 Alexander Zverev’s career is surely heading in the right direction, but his personal life might not be very pleasant. Recently, the German star’s former girlfriend, Olga Sharypova accused Zverev of physical abuse during their relationship.

However, Zverev has been candid enough to state that he is going to refrain to commenting on the issue moving forward. That said, the Tokyo gold medalist did confirm that the German court did dash all the allegations direct towards him.

“I have said everything. I think my statement was very, very clear, and I think the German court system is also very clear. Just because we’re not in Germany right now doesn’t mean that the court system is not great,” Zverev explained.

The 24-year-old also asked the media to let him be and not bother with too many personal, unwanted questions, especially keeping the mental well-being of the players.

“I have said everything before. And there is also, I mean, there is going to be also further proceedings from my side because I will not let that sit on me, and that’s it. I’m not going to comment on it any further, because to be honest, I have been dealing with it for a long time now, and you guys need to be fair to me as well, because we are talking about mental health and all that to players, and this is not healthy for me either.”

“I’m very happy with how things went in the past few days, few weeks. I think a lot of people try to twist what I said and try to twist my words on that statement, but I think it was very, very clear. That’s it.”

Back to the action in New York, Zverev is perhaps in the form of his life on the hard courts. After having won the gold at the Olympics and the Cincinnati Masters, he is one of the prime contenders to win the 2021 US Open. Zverev will take on Albert Ramos Vinolas in the second round.

Zverev was also the runner-up at the US Open in 2020, where Dominic Thiem went onto win his first Grand Slam.
