Alexander Zverev registers his first career win over Andy Murray, now has wins over all of the ‘Big-4’

Alexander Zverev defeats Andy Murray in a thrilling match in the 3rd round of the ongoing Indian Wells 2021, clinches first win against Murray.

Alexander Zverev

Arguably one of the exciting matches of the ongoing Indian Wells 2021, World No. 4 and the 3rd seeded Alexander Zverev took on former World No. 1 Andy Murray and the current World No. 121. While Zverev won the match 6-4, 7-6(4), the scoreline does not justify the performance put in by Murray who continues to struggle for big wins and consistency.

Both the players had 8 aces to their names and 4 double faults each and were neck to neck in all the other statistics as well. Zverev won 82 of the 156 points while Murray managed 74 in their match that went over 2 hours for the two sets they contested. Even on the match point that won Zverev the match, both were standing at the net and the point could have been won by anyone until Murray misfired his forehand.

The win now takes the German into the 4th round of the Indian Wells, his first Round of 16 appearance since 2016. Zverev is certainly one of the title favourites this week and with a massive win like this, it will surely add to his confidence. Murray on the other hand gave hints on his participation in the upcoming Davis Cup and the 3-time Grand Slam champion might skip it.
