The Internationale Sport-Korrespondenz (ISK), a German sports journalism agency, hosted the 75th edition of the awards at the famous Kurhaus Baden-Boden. Alexander Zverev was presented with the German Sportsman of the year at the same event. However, the Olympic champion received a great deal of backlash on Twitter where people criticized the decision of electing Zverev as the German Sportsman of the year.

Some netizens were in shock after receiving the news of Zverev winning the award. They commented things like, “Are you kidding” and “Is this a Joke” trying to display their disappointment.

The netizens believed that world No.3 shouldn’t be considered for the award since he has a pending investigation over allegations of sexual assault. However, until the investigation hasn’t made any conclusive judgments in the case, Zverev shouldn’t be scrutinized for things that he might or might not have done. As under the presumption of innocence, a legal principle states that “every person accused of any crime is considered innocent until proven guilty”.
