Bianca Andreescu smashed out a sublime showdown as she eliminated Alison Riske in the second round of the tournament. She registered a thrilling victory after intense trade of haymakers as the scoreline suggested 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2 in her favour. Andreescu was involved in a humdinger battle and has already been a part of fifteen three-set clashes.

Kontaveit held a comfortable lead over Martina Trevisan before the latter retired, most likely due to fatigue or an injury, though the clarity was not obtained. Though Anett was not tested enough for her responses, her clash with Bianca may open up a few skeletons in the closet. Despite not playing a full match with Trevisan, she still ended up elapsing 90 minutes in the court. She had to bring out the best of her defences to stave away an aggressive Trevisan. Anett managed to save seven break points out of the 8 which were crafted against her.

Even the WTA rankings have juxtaposed these two players with Kontaveit in the 20^th position and Bianca in the 21^st position. Their game styles are also familiar but Anett’s newfound love for digging deep in the defence and then belting out those screamers may very well be the turning point of the game.

Though the scales will be even on the court, probably Anett’s aggression may be the slender line of difference between these two and it will be her who will be the favourite to win this encounter.
