World No. 113 and wildcard entrant Andy Murray is currently playing at the Moselle Open 2021 where he began his campaign with a hard-earned victory against World No. 26 and the 6th seeded Frenchman, Ugo Humbert. Murray despite dropping the first set, came back stronger and won the next two sets to win the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

It was nearly a 2.5 hour battle between the two players who kept on pushing each other before Murray finally remained the last man standing. Murray fired 18 aces and conceded just 4 from Humbert and also had a better conversion rate at the break-points which turned out to be a major difference between the two.

Speaking after the match in his press conference, Murray was rather pleased with the performance against a much higher-ranked opponent who was having a good season, especially during the Grasscourt season as Ugo was the winner of the ATP-500 Halle Open, his biggest career title so far.

Frankly, I lost a number of games where I played really well I think Tsitsipas at the US Open, Hurcacz in Cincinnati. The win against a player who I believe is not far from the 25th place worldwide playing not very well it’s very positive. Tonight I had too many opportunities that I failed to convert

The real satisfaction in this case since Wimbledon is my service. This allows me to have a lot of free points and in this type of duel, it is important,” said Murray.

With a good win in the 1st round, Murray now advances into the 2nd round and will battle Candian Vasek Pospisil for a place in the quarter-finals. Vasek defeated wildcard entrant Gregoire Barrere 6-3, 6-4 to move into the Round of 16 for the first time since his quarter-final run at the 2021 Eastbourne Open.

This will be the first meeting between the two players since 2017 having met 5 times previously on the Tour. Murray has a better record having won 4 out of those 5 matches but Vasek won the last meeting after having lost in their first 4 matches.
