In a message on Twitter, Andy Roddick stated that not many organizations could have made such a bold decision. The American added that he was proud to be a part of the tennis community that held the safety of its players as their highest concern.

There are a lot of organizations who can afford to do something like this a lot more than the WTA can ……. Respect. Doing the right thing is a lot easier when there aren’t associated costs. I continue to be proud to be in the tennis orbit #PengShuai,” the tweet read.

Peng Shuai disappeared suddenly after she made sexual assault allegations against a top Chinese government official. However, just two weeks after her allegations, her issue seems to have been censored in China. Chinese officials have not responded to WTA’s request of allowing Peng Shuai to speak freely or cease the censorship. Hence, WTA had to make this courageous decision to suspend all tournaments in the country.
