The World No.1 Ashleigh Barty defeated Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios to become the player with the most-watched match at the Australian Open 2022. Ashleigh Barty’s third-round match against Camila Giorgi of Italy brought in a record number of viewers.

Contrary to popular opinion the 20-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal and the crowd-favorite Nick Kyrgios took second and third place on the list of most-watched matches at the Australian Open 2022.

Ashleigh Barty the world No.1 and considered to be the favorite to win the Australian Open 2022 achieved another great feat outside the tennis court. The two-time grand slam champion was able to bring a record number of viewers in her third-round match against Camila Giorgi of Italy.

Barty managed to leave behind a 20-time grand slam champion and a legend of the game Rafael Nadal and the crowd-favorite Nick Kyrgios in terms of viewership statistics. Nadal and Kyrgios were considered to be the most-watched matches but after the stats came out, they revealed a completely different picture.

The world No.1 got 1.686 million viewers in her third-round match against the Italian. Whereas Rafael Nadal’s third-round victory against Karen Khachanov got 1.204 million viewers and Nick Kyrgios’ had a once in a lifetime match against Daniil Medvedev which received 1.628 million views.

Australian Open is considered to be one of the most followed sporting events in Australia. The Australian Open was expected to get attract even more viewers this year because of all the Novak Djokovic Drama before the beginning of the Australian Open. But due to his absence, the viewership took quite a huge hit.

However, in the absence of the men’s world No.1, we had the women’s world No.1, Barty, covering up that field and she delivered big time. Barty has been very consistent in her performance and made it to the fourth round without dropping a single set. After the defending champion Naomi Osaka’s exit on Friday, Barty is the favorite to win the Australian Open 2022.
