John Isner vs Vasek Pospisil: Preview

John Isner

Since winning the title at Atlanta Open and playing the semi-finals at the Toronto Masters in August 2021, John Isner has seen a backslide in his performance. The 36-year-old also did not enjoy a promising start to 2022. In the five matches, he has played this season, he has only won one. He was knocked out of the Australian Open in the first round, and his ranking plunged. However, his form is improving at the Dallas Open, where he upset Kevin Anderson in three exciting sets 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 in the round of 16, where he was expected to lose.

Vasek Pospisil has enjoyed a strong start to the year. He didn’t have a great year in 2021, barely standing anywhere, but this year he chose to focus on challengers, reaching two quarter-finals and winning one of them, the Quimper Challenger. He broke into the quarter-finals of the Dallas Open after advancing through the qualifying rounds and defeating Jurij Rodionov in three long sets, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 in the round of 16.

John Isner vs Vasek Pospisil: Head to Head

Vasek Pospisil

This will be the duo’s eighth meeting, with Isner dominating the Head to Head record 4-2. The last time they faced off was in 2017 in the second round at Atlanta Open in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

John Isner vs Vasek Pospisil: Prediction

John Isner

Despite Pospisil’s upward performance trajectory this year, John Isner has brought a very strong service game and is a difficult opponent to play against in this tournament. He also holds an advantage against Pospisil because he has defeated him more times and in their prior meeting. In a match that is likely to be exciting, he will take on Pospisil in the quarter-finals.

Prediction: Isner to win in three sets.
