Fifth seed American Tennys Sandgren will open against Joao Sousa and the winner will face the winner of Jason Jung and Brayden Schnur. Bublik and Sandgren could lock horns in the quarterfinals.
Japanese third seed Yoshihito Nishioka too receives a first round bye and will face either wild card Jack Sock or qualifier Alex Bolt in the Round of 16. 8th seed Kevin Anderson is drawn alongside Nishioka and the duo may clash in the last 8. First Semifinal Prediction: Alexander Bublik vs Yoshihito Nishioka
American second seed Sam Querrey receives a first round bye alongwith Canadian Vasek Pospisil. Querrey will either face Maxime Cressy or Italian Paolo Lorenzi in the second round and could face Australian seventh seed Jordan Thompson in the quarterfinals who faces Yuichi Sugita in the second round.
Vasek Pospisil is expected to face either of Peter Gojowczyk or Mitchell Krueger in the Round of 16. In form Denis Kudla will be up against fellow American Jenson Brooksby in the Round of 16 and is expected to cruise into the quarterfinals where he could face Pospisil.
Second Semifinal Prediction: Denis Kudla vs Sam Querrey
The first semifinal between Alexander Bublik and Yoshihito Nishioka should be a very interesting matchup, given Bublik’s unorthodox gameplay and Nishioka’s court coverage. Bublik will attack Nishioka with serve, given the Japanese’s height but will be troubled by his on court movement. Expect a tricky match with Bublik reaching his second consecutive final at Newport.
In an All-American clash, Denis Kudla and Sam Querrey will battle it out for a place in the final. Both the Americans have similar gameplay and the match could very well go to the decider. Querrey will have an edge given his experience.
Newport Final prediction: Alexander Bublik vs Sam Querrey
Alexander Bublik and Sam Querrey will battle it out for the title. Bublik will bring in the element of uncertainty which will trouble Querrey. Both have amazing serves and whoever returns better is likely to come out the victor. Expect Bublik to lift the trophy in Newport.
