Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Marcos Giron: Preview

Felix Auger-Aliassime
Felix Auger-Aliassime

The Canadian comes into this match high on confidence after stunning the 10-time champion Roger Federer in straight sets in the previous round. His serving was impeccable, and his forehand fired too to dismiss the Swiss maestro. He is yet to drop a set in the tournament till now. Even in Stuttgart last week, Felix impressed with his game on grass by reaching the finals, only to be denied by the ATP veteran Marin Cilic. In 2019 too, the 20-year-old enjoyed a decent time on the grass by winning nine matches in 12 outings. Given his recent run, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he makes another final appearance in Halle later in the week.

On the other hand, the American comes into this round after a surprise win in three sets over Jan-Lennard Struff, who took out the top seed Daniil Medvedev in the opening round. Although Giron came into this tournament as a qualifier, he has shown promise of playing on the grass. After a disappointing performance in Stuttgart in last week, he will be keen to make a deep run in Halle this week.

Although Giron beat Struff, the Canadian star is likely to fancy his chances in this contest after his stellar show against Federer. If Felix can serve consistently and keep his unforced errors under check, he should have less problems seeing off the American. Meanwhile, Giron will have to improve on his return and covert the break points opportunities regularly to make this match interesting.

Match Prediction: Felix Auger-Aliassime should win in two sets.
