Spanish ace, Paula Badosa has been in amazing form this season. She had an amazing clay season and went in the second week at Roland Garros. She proved that she can beat big names on the WTA tour and did the same this week at the Olympics. In the first round, she beat Kristina Mladenovic in three sets and then pulled off an upset, beating 6th seed and 2020 French Open champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets in the second round.

She then got the better of Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska in the three round in straight sets 6-2,6-3 to enter her maiden quarterfinals at the megaevent.

As for her opponent, Marketa Vondrousova, she hasn’t been in the best of form this season. She showed glimpses of brilliance during the European clay court season and has been hitting very well this week in Tokyo. She beat Dutch Kiki Bertens in the first round and then got the better of Mihaela Buzarnescu easily in the second round. And in the third round, she pulled off the upset of the tournament, beating home favorite Naomi Osaka in straight sets 6-1,6-4 to set up a clash with Badosa.
