Ashleigh Barty vs Ajla Tomljanovic : Preview
Ashleigh Barty enters her maiden quarter-final at the Wimbledon Championships after defeating French Open 2021 champion Barbora Krejcikova in the 4th round of the Wimbledon 2021. Barty registered her third consecutive straight-set win at the All-England Club this year after winning the first round match in 3-sets.
Barty makes it into the last-8 of her 3rd Grand Slam after making it till the quarter-finals of the Australian Open from 2019 to 2021 and also at the 2019 French Open where she won her first and only Grand Slam title so far. The US Open remains the only Grand Slam where she is yet to make it past the 4th round.
Ajla Tomljanovic continues her dream run at the Wimbledon 2021 as she makes it into her first-ever Grand Slam quarter-final. Ajla was up against local girl Emma Raducanu who was playing in her first-ever Wimbledon after having received a wildcard. It was an unfortunate ending to the match though as Emma had to retire mid-match in the 2nd set.
Ajla had won her first-round match in straight-sets and had to battle in 3-sets in the next two rounds. While she was 6-4, 3-0 up when Emma had to pull out, she will be confident in herself coming into the quarter-finals after having won matches in straight sets and also where she had to stage a comeback after being a set down.
Ashleigh Barty vs Ajla Tomljanovic : Head to Head
This will be the first professional meeting between the two Australians who had paired up for Doubles in past but had not faced each other. The head-to-head stands at 0-0.
Ashleigh Barty vs Ajla Tomljanovic : Prediction
Ajla will come into the clash with a career Grass record of 29-24 and an overall season record of 20-14 after having a great Clay season. While she has certainly impressed with her consistent performances, it will be a tough battle against Barty who has been absolutely flawless this time at Wimbledon.
Barty will take the court as the favourite to make it into the semis with her career Grass record of 56-16 and an overall season record of 32-6. She was 14-2 on hard courts and 14-4 on Clay courts, with 2 of those losses recorded due to her retirement mid-match because of injury. Looking at her form in the past week also, it seems that Barty will be the one advancing ahead.
Prediction: Ashleigh Barty to win in straight-sets.
