Roberto Bautista Agut vs Pedro Martinez Preview

Roberto Bautista Agut
Roberto Bautista Agut

he 33-year-old Spaniard is having a very disappointing time on the clay in 2021. Although he has won seven matches on the dirt, his performances in the Masters 1000 events has been below par. He has not been able to get past the third round in all the four tournaments he has played on the clay in 2021. He did start off his French Open campaign in style by dismissing fellow round of 16 contestant Mario Martinez straight sets. He has had a horror run of events since Roland Garros, with Austria’s round of 16 being his highest finish since then.

Having begun the season ranked 86th on the ATP charts, 24-year-old Pedro Martinez had fallen away a little at the start of the year despite his third round appearance at Australian Open. Because other than that result, there were four tournaments between January and April where he fell in the opening rounds. It’s after the tour switched over to clay that the results started getting better for Martinez. Couple of second round appearances at Estoril, Parma and Roland-Garros would have helped, as did a third round appearance at Wimbledon before he made it to the second round at Bastad again.

Roberto Bautista Agut vs Pedro Martinez Prediction

Agut comes into the clash as favourite and has been heavily inconsistent this year, not reaching the round of 16 for a number of events consecutively before arriving in Austria. His opposition isn’t heavily experienced and hence we can expect a close match, especially considering that Roberto is out of form.

Prediction: Martinez to win in 3 sets
