Belinda Bencic vs Nadia Podoroska: Preview
Bencic had a breakthrough year in 2019, winning in Dubai and Moscow. And in early 2020 was ranked as high as No. 4 in the World. But post the pandemic, her performances have dived South. After an unimpressive hard court season in 2021, Bencic came into the clay court leg of the tour with high hopes.
Unfortunately apart from Madrid where she reached the Quarterfinals, losing to Paula Badosa at that stage, her clay court season wasn’t anything to write home about. The last event she played before coming to Paris was the Italian Open, and there she got ousted in the first round by Kristina Mladenovic.
Her opponent in the first round is Nadia Podoroska. Podoroska is twenty-four and from Argentina. She has a 10-11 win loss record this year. Podoroska broke the internet a few weeks back when she defeated Serena Williams 7-6 7-5, at the Italian Open. At the just concluded Serbia Open she reached the Quarter Finals, losing to Ana Konjuh, 4-6 3-6.
Belinda Bencic vs Nadia Podoroska: Head to Head
These two players haven’t met on the tour yet so the head to head stands at 0-0.
Belinda Bencic vs Nadia Podoroska: Prediction
Bencic has been inconsistent and erratic throughout the year, her game fluctuating between the ridiculous and the sublime. On her bad day her serve totally falls apart as in her last defeat to Mladenovic she served a total seven grand slams and her first serve generally hovered around the 50% mark.
Podoroska has a problem with her service game as well, but she works very hard on court. This contest is a difficult one to predict and will keep the audiences on the edge of their seats.
Prediction: Belinda Bencic will beat Nadia Podoroska in three sets.
