Bianca Andreescu, US Open 2019 champion progressed into the third round, after she defeated Lauren Davis in straight sets in the second round. The Canadian rose to fame after she clinched the US Open title in 2019, defeating Serena Williams in the finals. Hence, it is at the Flushing Meadows that her career took a surprising turn.

Bianca Andreescu has struggled with injuries since winning her maiden slam in 2019, and was ruled out of action for the entirety of last year. She has not been at her best this year, as she has made several early round exits.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Andreescu was delighted to secure a straight sets victory in the second round, and believes that she is feeling more confident about her game, as the tournament progresses.

“I feel very good here. I think as the games progress, I start to feel more and more of my tennis. I haven’t had easy games. Which I am very happy about, it’s mostly my service because I worked a lot on it. Also my movement on the pitch, I worked a lot in the gym and it really pays,said Bianca Andreescu.

Bianca Andreescu hopes to keep improving at US Open 2021

Bianca Andreescu faced first round defeats at Wimbledon and French Open 2021, and was not in her best form. However, she stated that she saw positive changes in her game start from the Rogers Cup, where she managed to reach the third round.

I felt that it was starting to improve at the Rogers Cup. I had a good period after Wimbledon working with Sven. I think these are just the games I really need. It’s good,” she said.

Bianca Andreescu hopes to continue with her current form, and wants to improve as the tournament progresses. Moreover, she believes she can go all the way at Flushing Meadows once again this year. “I hope I can go all the way, keep improving as the tournament progresses,” the Canadian added.

Next up for Bianca Andreescu is a tricky encounter against the Belgian, Greet Minnen who has won five consecutive matches to make it to the third round of US Open 2021.
