The world number 91 Frenchwoman won the first qualifying round 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 against Chile’s Bárbara Gatica, but lost the second qualifying round 6-2, 5-7, 2-6 to Indonesia’s Aldila Sutjiadi. In the round of 32, she’ll play No. 1 seed Elina Svitolina.

So far on the North American trip, the Olympic bronze medalist has struggled. Johanna Konta came back from a set down to overcome the Ukrainian 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the Canadian Open, while Angelique Kerber eliminated the 26-year-old with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 triumph in Cincinnati last week. The World No. 6 has to regain her winning form in Chicago, with the US Open only a week away. She has an excellent chance of reaching her first final of the season in Chicago, where she is seeded No. 1, and fine-tuning her game ahead of the grand slam.
