Novak Djokovic is undoubtedly one of the greatest tennis players of all time. The Serbian asserted himself as one of the game’s greats, after claiming his 20th Grandslam title at Wimbledon this year. With his triumph in London, Djokovic draws level with Roger Federer’s and Rafael Nadal’s tally of 20 majors.

Novak Djokovic missed out on a golden opportunity to bag a gold medal at Tokyo Olympics this year, as the 24-year-old had to settle for a fourth-placed finish. However, that takes nothing away from the Serb who has been nothing short of extraordinary this year, given his dominance on all surfaces.

The reigning world number has won all three Grandslam titles of the year so far, and will aim to win his fourth consecutive major at the Flushing Meadows this year. He withdrew from all tournaments in lead up to the US Open, as he focused on his recovery for the final slam of the year.

The likes of Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer have all pulled out from the US Open 2021 owing to their existing injuries. This means that much of the competition for the major has been reduced, however, Novak Djokovic still faces a tricky task at the Flushing Meadows.

Novak Djokovic’s schedule has been nothing short of exhausting, given that he played the full clay court season, followed by Wimbledon. The Serbian also competed at Tokyo Olympics, which is thought to take a lot out of time, given the treacherous playing conditions in the country.

Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev are two players who are most likely to rival Novak Djokovic for the title at US Open. Daniil Medvedev has been one of the most consistent players on hard courts since the past few years, and also reached the finals of US Open in 2019. On the other hand, Alexander Zverev was within striking distance of the US Open title last year, after going two sets up in the final against Dominic Thiem.

Given, Novak Djokovic’s experience of dealing with pressure, one must say that the NextGen players will have to be at the top of their games if they are to defeat the world number one.
