Coco Gauff saw her dream run at the French Open 2021 come to an end, as she was defeated in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The 17-year old lost to the Czech, Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets by a score line of 7-6, 6-3.
Coco Gauff lost her composure after she lost the first set in a close tiebreaker. It went all downhill from there for the American teenager. She was down 4-0 in the third set, when her frustration got the better off her. She was serving to get back into the match, but hit a double fault, which gave Krejcikova a 5-0 lead in the decider. Gauff smashed her racquet in frustration, as it seemed that there was no way back for her. However, she put up a brave display, and won three consecutive games, before the Czech closed out the match in the ninth game of the last set.
Barbora Krejcikova continues her impressive run
Barbora Krejcikova has been one of the standout players this year at the French Open 2021. The 25-year old has dropped just one set so far this tournament, and has beaten some quality players on her way to the semifinals in Paris.
Barbora Krejcikova defeated the fifth seed, Elina Svitolina in straight sets in the third round, and scored a dominating victory over the in-form, Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals. She will now face the winner of the other quarterfinal between Iga Swiatek and Maria Sakkari in the semifinals.
Barbora Krejcikova is on a ten match unbeaten streak, as she lifted the Strasbourg Open title prior to the French Open. She also reached the finals of the Dubai Open a couple of months ago, where she lost to Garbine Muguruza.
