The current world No.2 is the top seed of the Australian Open 2022 in the absence of Novak Djokovic. The Russian will be looking to make the most of this opportunity and grab that No.1 position that Djokovic has been holding for more than 75 weeks now.

Medvedev while asking the question about becoming the world No.1 at the end of the Australian Open 2022, said, “I can become No.1 with Novak losing his point here, we cannot not talk about it”.

Daniil Medvedev has been the No.2 accompanying Novak Djokovic at the No.1 spot for a really long time. But this time around with Djokovic not being around Medvedev has a great chance of making it to the top of the ATP rankings.

Medvedev won his match against the Australian in front of his home crowd. Medvedev looks in form and could very well be the new No.1 till the end of the Australian Open. However, the change of positions in the ATP rankings won’t be entirely fair since Djokovic wasn’t allowed to play in the tournament.

But Djokovic not playing the tournament wasn’t Medvedev’s fault. However, he will latch on to the benefits that he is going to get because of Djokovic’s absence. The only player who stopped Medvedev from winning the Australian Open 2021 was Djokovic who is not present. So, Medvedev not only has a chance to become the world No.1 but to also win his first Australian Open title which he was denied a year back.

During his post-match press conference, Medvedev said, “I can become No.1 with Novak losing his point here, we cannot not talk about it. I think even if I become No.1 in these circumstances I should be given some credit”
