Novak Djokovic vs Kevin Anderson : Preview
Novak Djokovic is back at the Centre Court at Wimbledon and in the very first match proves why he will be a solid contender for the title. Djokovic, who was playing against British teenager Jack Draper, dropped the first set and found himself on the backfoot. But doing what he does best, Djokovic fought back strongly to win the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
Djokovic who did not play in any Singles tournament in the build-up to the Wimbledon 2021, played in the Doubles event at the ATP Mallorca Open 2021. With a fresh new court that was surprisingly slippery, both the players took time to find their footing and adjust their movements, a point Djokovic talked in his on-court interview after the match.
Kevin Anderson moves into the 2nd round after a good comeback victory in the 1st round against qualifier Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera. Anderson, similar to Djokovic, dropped the first set and fought back winning the next three. He defeated Vera 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4, 7-6(4) in over 3 hours and 7 minutes.
Anderson played 2 Challengers along with the ATP Eastbourne 2021 in preparation for the Grand Slam but he did not find much success going out in the 1st qualifying round at Eastbourne.
Novak Djokovic vs Kevin Anderson : Head to Head
This will be their 12th meeting on the tour and 4th meeting on Grass, having met on all 3 occasions at Wimbledon only. Anderson won their first ever meeting back in 2008 and had to wait till 2018 to register his 2nd win over the Serbian who currently leads their head-to-head tie 9-2 having won all 3 of their grass meetings as well.
Novak Djokovic vs Kevin Anderson : Prediction
Anderson will take the court with a career Grass record of 52-34 and a season record of 7-8. He has not been much active due to lack of his fitness and will have to climb a steep hill to defeat the in-form Serbian.
Novak will be the favourite for this clash as it is no doubt given his amazing form and Anderson’s struggles. Djokovic has a career Grass record of 100-19 and is 28-3 for the season having won both the Grand Slams held this year as he chases another Grand Slam in the upcoming fortnight.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in straight-sets.
