Novak Djokovic vs Denis Shapovalov : Preview
Novak Djokovic advances into his 10th semi-final at the Wimbledon Championships as he defeats Hungarian surprise quarter-finalist Marton Fucsovics 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in over 2 hours and 16 minutes at the Wimbledon 2021. Djokovic enters his 41st Grand Slam semi-final and now trails by 5 to Roger Federer who is at 46 Grand Slam semi-finals but could make it 47 later in the day.
This was Djokovic’s 4th straight-set win at the Wimbledon 2021 having dropped only the first set in his opening round clash against British teenager Jack Draper. Since then, the Serbian is yet to drop a single set in what has been another dominant and rampant title defence at the All-England Club by the Nole.
Denis Shapovalov enters in his first-ever Grand Slam semi-final after a marathon match on No. 1 Court against Karen Khachanov. He went on to defeat Khachanov 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in over 3 hours and 25 minutes. Shapovalov hit a whopping 17 aces and was clinical in his service and also while playing the net points winning the majority of them.
This was Shapovalov’s 2nd 5-set win at this year’s Wimbledon. He had received a bye in the 2nd round and went on to win the 3rd and the 4th round in straight-sets before playing this marathon match against Khachanov who put on a brave fight.
Novak Djokovic vs Denis Shapovalov : Head to Head
This will be the 7th meeting between the duo and will be the first on Grass. This will be the 2nd meeting between the duo this year having met in the 2021 ATP Cup earlier as well. Djokovic has been the winner in all of the previous matches and leads the head-to-head tie 6-0.
Novak Djokovic vs Denis Shapovalov : Prediction
Shapovalov will take the court with a career Grass record of 15-13 and is 7-2 on Grass for the season. He has a record of 21-13 across the season. Despite having played some great tennis over the two weeks, it will indeed be a tough battle for the Canadian against the Serbian.
Novak Djokovic will take the court as the favourite for the clash as he comes in with a career Grass record of 104-19 and an overall season record of 32-3. He has played in a Singles Grass tournament only at the Wimbledon this year and with a 5-0 record and having dropped only 1-set, he looks certain to make it into another final at the All-England Club.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in 4-sets.
