Dominic Thiem pulls out of Wimbledon 2021 due to wrist injury

Dominic Thiem has pulled out of Wimbledon 2021 owing to a wrist injury he suffered at Mallorca Open 2021. The Austrian was leading 5-2 in the first set against Adrian Mannarino in the first round of Mallorca Open, before he had to withdraw due to wrist issues.

Dominic Thiem went to Barcelona for further scans, which revealed a detachment of the posterior sheath of the ulnar side of the right wrist, which will rule him out of action for several weeks. He will wear a wrist splint for a period of five weeks, before he can return to practice once again. Dominic Thiem has pulled out of three tournaments which were a part of his schedule- Wimbledon, Hamburg and Gstaad.

Dominic Thiem hopes to recover as quickly as possible, and stated that he will listen to his doctor’s advice. “I’m going to do everything the doctors say in order to recover as quickly as possible. They’ve informed me that I might be out for several weeks, but I will do my best to be back on court soon,” Thiem wrote on Twitter.

“I’m really sorry for pulling out of the upcoming three tournaments I had in my calendar: Wimbledon, Hamburg and Gstaad. They are very important tournaments for me. I appreciate all the support from the fans in these difficult moments – I’m determined to come back stronger,” Thiem added.

Dominic Thiem also pulled out of Tokyo Olympics, next month. The Austrian had stated that he aims to defend his US Open title this year. The world number five lifted the US Open title last year, after he defeated Alexander Zverev in the finals in five sets.
