Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils have had themselves quite a week and now turn their attention to the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo.

Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina had their marriage ceremony only recently and now look forward to representing their respective nations at Olympics 2021.

The 26-year-old Ukraine international tied the knot on Friday, Exactly one week before the opening ceremony of the Olympics. Yesterday, the pair were spotted practicing in the practice courts of Ariake Tennis Park. “It’s been unbelievable to be fair. Two exciting moments of my life so close to each other. We had an amazing time at the marriage even with the Covid restrictions in place,” said Elina with a huge smile on her face before coming back to talking about the upcoming Games.

“But no we are here to prepare and hopefully play well. We are used to having so many games and tournaments in a year so there is no time for resting.”

“The goal, for me, is to get that Olympic medal for my country, where Olympics is a big thing.”

Svitolina caused a major upset at the 2016 Rio Olympics where she blew away top seed Serena Williams in straight sets 6-3,6-1. She went on to reach the quarter final, where she was defeated comfortably by eventual bronze medallist Petra Kvitova.

“I want to be remembered as a fighter for my country,” said the Ukrainian, who also added that her home nation always supports every player whole-heartedly because the Olympics is a big thing for the 42 million strong country.

Elina Svitolina, who may now be called Elina Monfils, comes off a disappointing Wimbledon where she faltered in the second round to Magda Linette, losing in straight sets to the Pole.
