As the governing bodies of tennis are finding every possible way to resume the tennis season, the one option they came up with is holding tournaments behind the doors. However, Roger Federer has rejected this idea of playing in front of empty stands.
Fan-favourite, 20-time Grand Salam champion, the Swiss Maestro, Federer is obviously used to play in front of full-packed stadiums.
Playing Tennis behind closes doors, however, might this be the future prospect of tennis until the coronavirus subsides.
As Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic were open to the idea of playing tennis with no audience, Rafael disagrees by saying that it would be difficult for him to play with no fans around.
In a video call with Brazilian legend Gustavo Kuerten, Federer said that, “I can’t imagine in an empty stadium, I don’t succeed and I hope it never happens. As much as when we train there are no people, competing is very different.”
“It is clear that the possibility is feasible. But I think we could wait for the appropriate moment to return in the best conditions, with atleast a third of the stadium full or half in. It would be very difficult for me to play major tournaments behind closed doors.” He further added.
The only alternative to resume tennis, might be playing behind closed doors. Moreover, it is important for the lower-ranked players yo resume the tours who make a living from playing the tournaments.
