After a good 2021 season, the curtains have fallen on this year’s tennis calendar. As tired as the players may have been, the fans are all pumped up, and are eagerly awaiting the upcoming season. Putting an end to all the anticipation, the WTA has released the official list of tournaments for the first half of 2022.
The press release states that the 49th WTA season will commence in the land down under. The first on the list is the Adelaide International, followed by two tournaments at 4 events, which finally culminate at the first grand slam of the year, the Australian Open.
The WTA Tour will follow the traditional structure of the tennis calendar, with matches starting on the hardcourt, before moving on to clay, and then ending at the grass courts of the Wimbledon (first half).
“We are excited to get the new season underway” – Chairman on WTA 2022 Schedule
The CEO and Chairman of the WTA, Steve Simmons, was enthusiastic about the upcoming season, saying “The 2022 WTA tour calendar will once again provide a prestigious stage for the world’s best female tennis players to compete on.”
He further added, “We are excited to get the new season underway and build on the popularity and legacy of our tournaments, while watching our stars and emerging talent showcase their skills to over 850 million fans worldwide.”
