Aryna Sabalenka vs Ana Konjuh: Preview

Aryna Sabalenka
Aryna Sabalenka

Sabalenka comes from the land of wrestlers and weight lifters. Not surprising if you look at her and then see the power she possesses on court. At only twenty-three Sabalenka already has ten WTA titles. But this year her performances on clay have been a revelation.

She has proved her critics wrong and competed well, first reaching the Final of the Stuttgart Open, and then as if to mock her critics even more, she won the Madrid Open beating Ash Barty in the Finals. Sabalenka is happy go lucky outside the court but inside the court she is a fierce competitor. Her first round opponent here is Ana Konjuh.

Former junior World No.1 Konjuh had a promising start to her career but the young player’s progress has been hampered time and again by injuries. The good thing is that the twenty three year old Croatian is back now and looking good. Konjuh reached the Finals of the just concluded Serbia Open where she lost to Paula Badosa. At the French Open, Konjuh won three qualifying rounds to book her spot in the main draw.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Ana Konjuh: Prediction

Aryna Sabalenka
Aryna Sabalenka

Sabalenka has made big improvements to her game on clay and taken giant strides towards the favourites tag for this tournament. She has added variety to her already super powerful and potent game.

Konjuh is a good player, but her service has often let her down. She will consider herself unlucky to have come up against a player like Sabalenka, so early on, who is quality and has form on her side too.

Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka will beat Ana Konjuh in straight sets.
