Matteo Berrettini vs Taro Daniel: Preview

Matteo Berrettini
Matteo Berrettini

The big hitting Italian has played as many as 13 matches on the clay this season and won 10 of those. After a loose start in Monte Carolo, Berrettini made amends by winning the title in Belgrade by beating Aslan Karatsev. Thereafter, the 25-year-old also reached the finals of Madrid Masters, before he was stopped in the final set by Alexander Zverev. Given his current form, Berrettini should be reaching the second week of French Open in 2021. However, he is yet to cross round three in Paris.

On the other hand, the Japanese comes into this tournament having played most of the season on clay- 24 games. However, he has spent most of his time playing the challengers, but his impressive run in Belgrade pushed him up the rankings. He has made the main draw as in Paris, by beating Paolo Lorenzi and Sergjy Stakhovsky in the qualifiers. Moreover, he is yet to make the third round at Roland Garros.

Both players have already played each other on the dirt and should be accustomed to the game plan. However, the Italian is growing in confidence, owing to his recent success. He has beaten quite a few big games in 2021, and that should propel him further in the competition. Berrettini will use his big serve and try to attack the Japanese with his powerful forehand. Unless, the World No.9 drops his level, this should be a straight sets affair.

Match Prediction: Matteo Berrettini should win in three sets.
