Grigor Dimitrov has been ranked as high as No.3 in the World. The winner of eight ATP Titles, the Bulgarian last won a title in 2017. His form at this year’s clay court season has not been that great. He lost in the round of sixteen of the Monte Carlo Open to Rafael Nadal. Dimitrov lost the encounter in straight sets 1-6 1-6.

In the Madrid Open that followed, he lost in the first round to Lloyd Harris in three sets. At the Italian Open Dimitrov tasted defeat in the first round, this time to young Spaniard  Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. But, the Bulgarian got some semblance of form back at Geneva. He made it to the Quarterfinals of the event, losing to Pablo Cuevas of Argentina.

In the first round of the French Open he will face Marcos Giron. The twenty seven year old American Giron is yet to win a title on the ATP Tour. His best finish on clay this season came at the Madrid Open where he participated as a qualifier but reached the round of thirty-two of the event. At that stage, he lost to World No.4 Dominic Thiem

Grigor Dimitrov vs  Marcos Giron: Prediction

Grigor Dimitrov
Grigor Dimitrov

Dimitrov is looking to get back in form, and what better than facing a relatively weak opponent at the biggest tennis event on clay. Dimitrov has won a title on clay and once he gets his confidence back, he can turn it on, on clay as well.

The thirty year old Dimitrov reached the fourth round of the French Open last year, which has been his best finish till date. He will look to better that this time around. Giron is not expected to mount a challenge, and this should be an easy win for Dimitrov.

Prediction: Grigor Dimitrov will beat Marcos Giron in straight sets.
