29-year old Marton Fucsovics will open his French Open campaign against home hero Gilles Simon. The Hungarian star has been on and off this Clay season, his high coming at Rome where he pushed Dominic Thiem to three sets in the Round of 16.

Otherwise, he has had a poor season, losing in the first rounds at Monte Carlo and Madrid in straights sets. In the Geneva Open, he 10 days back, he lost to Swiss teenager Dominic Stricker in the Round of 16.

As for his opponent, French veteran Gilles Simon, he has been in terrible form all season. He has just won one match in the Sardegna Open where he defeated Stefano Travaglia in the first round. Other than that, he has lost in the first rounds at Barcelona, Estoril, Lyon and Parma.

It will be a very tricky match as both players are not in their best form and have very similar gamestyle. Simon depends a lot on his serve and finishes with a forehand winner in the open court while Fucsovics does the same but in longer rallies.

Fucsovics may have a slight edge given his recent form in Geneva but Simon will have backing of the home crowd. This match could very well go down the distance with the Hungarian just prevailing into the next round.

Prediction: Fucsovics to win in five sets.
