Sumit Nagal, the top-ranked Indian in the ATP Rankings progresses into the 2nd qualifying round after a straight-set win in the 1st round.

Nagal who was playing against Italian Roberto Marcora on the Court 8, won the match 6-3, 6-3 in 1 hour and 31 minutes. With this win, Nagal joins fellow Indians Ramkumar Ramanathan and Ankita Raina in the second round of the qualifiers for the main draw at the French Open 2021.

Nagal who is seeded 27th in the qualifiers dominated the game with his first serve having a 69% win percentage on the 1st serve and 71% on the 2nd serve. Nagal also won all of his net points in what was an easy outing for the 23-year old.

Both the players hit 2 aces each in the match, but Marcora lead in the double faults, mis-hitting twice while Nagal had just one solitary double fault in the match. Marcora also had 33 unforced errors to Sumit’s 22 and also failed to win any of his 2 break points while Nagal managed to grab 3 of his 13 break points.

While Marcora hit 19 winners to Nagal’s 14, Nagal covered it up by winning 76 points to Marcora’s 61 that ultimately costed the match to the Italian.

Sumit Nagal will play Alejandro Tabilo in the 2nd Qualifying Round at the French Open 2021

Sumit Nagal is set to play Chilean Alejandro Tabilo in the 2nd round of the qualifiers. It will be the first ever meeting between the two 23-year olds, with Sumit ranked World No. 143 and Alejandro ranked World No. 166.

While Nagal comes in from a straight-set victory in the first round, Tabilo had to battle it out in 3-sets to reach the 2nd round. Tabilo lost the first set and made a strong comeback in the second set taking the match into the final set where he clinched the victory with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Sumit Nagal and Alejandro Tabilo are set to play in the 2nd qualifying round on 26th May, 2021 on the Court-10 with the winner set to play against the winner of Carlos Alcaraz and Andrea Pellegrino in the final round of qualifiers to earn their place in the main draw of the Grand Slam.
