Veronika Kudermetova vs Amanda Anisimova : Preview

Veronika Kudermetova

Kudermetova had started the year well, reaching the Finals of the Abu Dhabi Open in January this year. The rest of the hard court season though wasn’t that great for her. She found her form back once on clay and won the very first tournament she participated in, the Charleston Open.

Immediately after that, she made it to the finals of the Istanbul Cup as well. In the Madrid Open she lost to Petra Kvitova in the round of sixteen, and in the Italian Open, Ash Barty got the better of her at the same stage. Kudermetova will face nineteen year old American Amanda Anisimova in the first round.

Anisimova at 17 years 222 days was the youngest American since Serena Williams 17 years and 169 days to win a title on the tour. But her form has not been that good this season. On clay, she lost to Maria Sakkari in Madrid and then Elina Svitolina in the Italian Open. At Parma she reached the Quarters and was ousted by Coco Gauff at that stage.

Veronika Kudermetova vs Amanda Anisimova : Prediction

Veronika Kudermetova

Kudermetova has a good serve and a decent baseline game. She is the player in form and her strategy will be to engage Anisimova in long rallies and force out mistakes. Anisimova has struggled with her serve, but the powerful player remains dangerous. Anisimova has been in bad form this year and it will be difficult for her to completely turn that around in one game.

Prediction: Veronika Kudermetova will beat Amanda Anisimova in three sets.
