Garbine Muguruza and Barbora Krejcikova clashed against each other in a blockbuster fourth round matchup at US Open 2021. The match did not quite live up to its expectations, as Krejcikova managed to pull off a straight sets victory.

However, the match was no short of controversies, as Garbine Muguruza was unhappy with the Czech’s behavior. Barbora Krejcikova took a medical timeout for a diaphragm issue, just when Muguruza came back from 4-0 deficit in the the second set. The Spaniard was leading 5-4 up till the break, however, just after the medical break, the reigning French Open champion won seven points on the trot.

Moreover, when Muguruza served in the tiebreaker, Krejcikova walked slowly towards the towel which angered the Spaniard further. When they greeted each other near the net, Muguruza called her opponent’s behavior as unprofessional.

Garbine Muguruza lost the first set convincingly, and was already down 4-0 in the second set. However, she came back storming into the match, winning the next five games on the trot. This was the time when Krejcikova decided to take a medical timeout.

Barbora Krejcikova seemed to have accepted her mistake, as she was seen apologizing when they greeted each other near the net. Speaking in the post-match press conference, Muguruza was disappointed with unprofessional attitude of the reigning French Open champion.

“Well, I think, between players, you know a little bit how to behave in certain moments and, yeah, I wasn’t very happy at the end of the match. That’s pretty much it,” said the Spaniard.

Barbora Krejcikova needed help walking off the court, which shows that she was indeed suffering with a problem. Moreover, she could not give the post-match interview due to her issues, and instead went-off court. Next up, she faces the second seed, Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals of US Open 2021.
