Cristian Garin makes a winning start at the Bastad Open 2021 as he defeats Spaniard Pedro Martinez 6-3, 6-3 to move into his 4th quarter-final of the season on Clay. Garin who is seeded 2nd received a bye in the first round and won his 2nd round match without breaking a sweat to go into the last-8 once again this season.

Garin comes to Sweden from a good week at Wimbledon 2021 where he was defeated by defending and eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the 4th round to make it successive 4th round appearances at Grand Slams after the Chilean also made it to the 4th round of the French Open 2021, his best Grand Slam results so far in his career.

Federico Coria makes a good debut at the Bastad Open 2021 as he makes it into the quarter-finals on the back of two good victories. Coria won the first match in straight-sets and then went on to defeat Marco Cecchinato in 3-sets to make it into his 2nd quarter-final of an ATP tournament this season.

Coria has been busy on the Challenger tournaments a lot and is playing just his third ATP tour-level tournament for the first time since May, two of those being the Grand Slams held in Paris and Wimbledon.

This will be the 2nd meeting between the duo after having previously met at the 2020 Rio Open which was also played on Clay. Garin won the tie in 3-sets and leads their head-to-head tie 1-0.

Coria has played the majority of his matches on Clay and in a career where he has played roughly 700 matches which include his Challenger appearances as well, he has played only 32 matches on surfaces other than Clay. He has a career Clay record of 440-239 and is currently 28-16 on Clay for the season and 29-20 across all surfaces.

Garin however will be the favourite for this clash as he comes in with good results and is high on confidence. With a comprehensive 2nd round victory that takes his career Clay record to 268-141 and his season Clay record to 13-7, he will be looking to make it into his first semi-final since his title run at the ATP Santiago 2021.
