Coco Gauff vs Camila Giorgi: Preview

Gauff comes into this match getting a walkover from Britain’s Johanna Konta in the previous round. She also got a free move ahead after Potapova retired midway in the earlier round. While the American is into the quarters, she has effectively finished only two full sets in this tournament. As far as results on the hard courts are concerned, the 17-year-old made the semis in Adelaide and quarters in Dubai, earlier in the year. She has won 14 matches till now in 2021 on the hard courts.

On the other hand, the Italian comes into this round after beating Petra Kvitova in straight sets in the previous round. Giorgi also beat Nadia Podoroska and Elise Mertens earlier in the competition. The Italian was also seen battling in the Tokyo Olympics, where she was stopped in the fourth round by Bronze medalist Elina Svitolina. Although Giorgi has beaten big names in 2021, her record on the hard court isn’t very impressive with just eight wins and four losses. That said, the 29-year-old will take comfort from the fact that she has lost only two sets in her last seven matches on the hard courts.

These two have met only once on the tour before. The young American beat the Italian on the clay of Parma earlier in the year.

While Giorgi will come into this game with an aggressive approach as she has done all her life, Gauff will be keen on playing a more percentage game. The Italian is used to blasting winners from the back court, and can also leak plenty of unforced errors in the process. If the American can grab on to the right moment and force her opponent to crumble under pressure, then she is likely to progress ahead.

Match Prediction: Coco Gauff should win in three sets.
