Former World No.4 Greg Rusedski feels reigning World No.1 Novak Djokovic will soon put an end to the GOAT debate in tennis by amassing a few more Grand Slams, before ending his celebrated career.

The former Canadian-British player further declared that the Serb will be the greatest ever player, once he comfortably passes rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

“While the GOAT debate will always go on, he will have no questions to answer if he gets five and more ahead of Federer and Nadal. Knowing how Novak works, he will want to put distance between himself and the other two guys and he wants to end the debate,” Rusedski told Tennis 365.

“The only way we can judge this is on numbers and Novak also has a winning record against the other two as well. The numbers don’t lie.”

Rusedski further added that the 34-year-old Djokovic has a great shot to even surpass Margaret Court’s record of 24.

“I think he will get 25 and become the all-time Slam winner on the men’s and women’s tours, with Margaret Court’s record standing at 24. It’s hard to argue against the guy who has done a Calendar Slam and has 25 Grand Slams.”

Pressure on Djokovic in New York

Before signing off, the 47-year-old also explained why the 20-time Grand Slam champion will feel enormous pressure when he steps onto the court to win the US Open.

“This is the most pressured Slam he will go into in his life. Yes there is no Federer or Nadal this time, but Medvedev is playing great, Tsitsipas and Zverev are playing great, Zverev is playing so well and this will be pressure at its highest,” Rusedski concluded.

Not for the first time in his career had Djokovic chosen to not play the warm-up tournaments before a Grand Slam. The Serb took an extended break after his shocking loss at the Tokyo Games. However, the three-time US Open winner has already landed in New York, to begin his intense practice on the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
