In a career spanning over two decades, Roger Federer has won 20 Grand Slam titles. He is currently 39 and might bid goodbye to the sport anytime soon. However, is the Swiss Maestro the oldest player who has ever won a Grand Slam title?

Even though Roger Federer has made records in tennis, this is not the area where is he is at the top of the list. Australia’s Ken Rosewall is the oldest player who won a major. It was the Australian Open 1972 title that Rosewall won at the age of 37 years, 2 months, and 1 day.

Rosewall was one of the legends of the sport who won 8 Grand Slams in his career. Interestingly, he also holds the record for the oldest player to reach a Grand Slam final as he played the US Open 1974 final at the age of 39 years and 10 months.

Federer appears second on the this list as he won the Australian Open 2018 at the age of 36 years, 5 months, and 7 days. It was here that he achieved the incredible feat of 20 majors.

Federer made an incredible comeback on the court at the Australian Open 2017. He stunned almost everyone as he won a major after returning to the court almost after a year. He even proved that his victory was not mere luck as he succeeded at the Wimbledon Championships later and then at the Australian Open 2018.

Even at the age of 36, Federer survived a tough five-set marathon against Marin Cilic in the finals of the Australian Open 2018. His fitness was a model to behold and he became quite emotional after winning the match.

Federer will be 40 in August 2021. However, before that, he can break Rosewall’s record to become the oldest player to win a major if he lifts the Wimbledon title this year. Even though he hasn’t got off to a great start in the grass-court season, fans surely have huge expectations from him. Will he be able to win his 21st Grand Slam title in London this year?
